This week in Algebra 1… May 11, 2020

This week we will continue MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS.

We will continue to post a HYPERDOC each Monday on Google Classroom with a weekly agenda to guide you through a specific module in Edmentum, scaffolded with videos and Desmos activities.

We have broken down the modules into A/B lessons. If you prefer to keep a daily schedule you may break the FIRST/THEN boxes into two days. We have simply a suggested daily pacing guide to help you work through the modules in a timely, manageable manner.

At the end of each week, we will ask you to complete an exit ticket in the form of a Google Form. These are linked in your hyperdoc. The exit tickets will give us feedback on the amount of work we are assigning and will inform the discussion in our Monday synchronous Google Meet sessions.

Please check the gradebook and carefully note what is being recorded:

  • Formative: Desmos activities  
  • Summative: Edmentum mastery tests 
  • Not graded: Exit tickets, but a way to provide feedback to your teachers
It is not too late to jump in and get started on what we’re doing!!

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your teacher. Our office hours are located here, in Google Classroom, under the ‘Classwork’ tab, under the ‘Office Hours’ topic. Outside of these hours, we will do our best to respond to emails within 24 hours.

  • Tuesday  (5/19) and Wednesday (5/20) - Multiplying Polynomials - monomial x polynomial 
  • Thursday (5/21) and Friday (5/22) - Multiplying Polynomials - binomial x binomial 
*Meet link will appear on the RVH Algebra 1 CLT - Continuity of Education Google Classroom header (below the class code) shortly before 10:40 am on Monday and will disappear shortly after 11:00 am. These meetings are optional, and just an opportunity for you to get questions answered if needed. All Algebra 1 students from Riverside will share a common Meet.

This project is due at the end of class on December 2 (B) and December 3 (A). Week 13 1920

This week we will continue our Graphing Linear Equations unit. A reminder that 90% of the HW for a unit must be completed ON TIME in order to qualify for any potential retakes. Please stay on top of your HW! We are reaching the point in Algebra 1 where it is CRITICAL for students to show up with a charged Chromebook EVERY DAY. Writing the Equation of a Line Given Two Points: An Experiment.

Background: I teach Algebra 1… in high school. In the state of Virginia. In the state of Virginia, in order to graduate high school you must pass ONE math SOL (end of year test). Some of the students who come to me have never passed a math SOL in their entire educational career. I am challenged with reaching the most vulnerable learners - they are neurodiverse, linguistically diverse, racially diverse, and economically diverse. They struggle with maturity and many have internalized that they “aren’t good at math.” But these kids deserve to be successful in math… and they deserve quality instruction in mathematics.
